Compounded Prednisolone Acetate
Veterinary Use Only
For what condition do veterinarians request this compound?
Prednisolone is a synthetic corticosteroid, and veterinarians request this compounded ophthalmic ointment for eye inflammation in canines.
How do I apply the compound?
Wash your hands with soap and warm water. Moisten a cotton ball with warm water and gently wipe it from the inner corner of the patient's eye toward the outer corner to remove any debris or discharge. Hold the ointment tube in your dominant hand, place your wrist under the patient’s chin, and lift it up so that the patient’s nose points straight up. Place your non-dominant hand on top of the patient's head and pull back the upper eyelid with your fingers. Squeeze the tube and apply some of the ointment to the patient's eye according to dosage instructions – while avoiding touching the surface of the patient’s eye with the tube. Release the upper eyelid, gently push it down so the eye closes, and make a circular motion with your finger above the eye to distribute the ointment over the eyeball.
How do I store this medication?
Store this compound in the original packaging at room temperature. Avoid exposure to extreme heat or cold.
What do I do if I miss a dose?
Administer the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue treatment as scheduled.
